Privacy Policy

Last updated: 30 July 2026

This website is operated by The Lantern Society. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit our website, sign up to our newsletter, or place an order, and it sets out your rights over that information. By using the site you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, the data controller is L.J. Black, trading as The Lantern Society. If you have any questions about this policy or wish to exercise your rights, you can contact us at hello@lanternsociety.co.uk.

Personal information we collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Contact details — your name, email address, and, when you place an order, your billing and shipping address and phone number.

  • Order information — the items you view or purchase, your order history, and details needed to fulfil and deliver your order.

  • Payment information — processed by our payment providers. We do not see or store your full card details ourselves.

  • Communications — anything you include when you contact us, for example a customer enquiry.

  • Newsletter sign-up — the email address you give us when you subscribe.

  • Technical information — your device, browser, and IP address, and information about how you use the site, collected through cookies and similar technologies. Our Cookie Policy explains this in more detail.

How we collect it

We collect personal information directly from you when you subscribe, order, or contact us; automatically through cookies and similar technologies when you use the site; and from the service providers who help us run the site and process payments.

How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • provide the website and fulfil your orders, including taking payment, arranging delivery, and handling any queries, returns, or replacements;

  • manage our relationship with you and respond to your messages;

  • send you our email newsletter, where you have signed up to receive it;

  • keep the site secure and prevent fraud; and

  • comply with our legal obligations.

We rely on the following legal bases under UK GDPR: performance of our contract with you (to process and deliver orders), your consent (for the newsletter and non-essential cookies), our legitimate interests (to run and secure the site), and legal obligation (where the law requires us to keep or disclose information).

Marketing

If you sign up to our newsletter, we will send you occasional updates by email. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, and we will stop. In the future we may introduce analytics and advertising tools, including cookies from third-party providers, to understand how the site is used and to show relevant advertising. Where these require your consent, we will ask for it through our cookie settings before they are used, and this policy and our Cookie Policy will be updated accordingly.

How we share your information

We share personal information only where necessary:

  • with Wix, which hosts and operates our website and processes information on our behalf as our service provider;

  • with our payment providers, to process your payments securely;

  • with delivery and fulfilment partners, to send you your order;

  • with other service providers who help us run the business, such as email and analytics tools; and

  • where required by law, or to protect our rights, or in connection with a sale or restructuring of the business.

We do not sell your personal information.

International transfers

Some of our service providers, including Wix, are based outside the United Kingdom, so your personal information may be transferred, stored, and processed outside the UK. Where we transfer personal information out of the UK, we rely on legal safeguards recognised under UK data protection law — such as the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement, the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, or transfers to countries the UK has determined provide adequate protection.

How long we keep it

We keep your personal information only for as long as we need it — to provide the service, fulfil your orders, comply with our legal obligations, and resolve any disputes. When we no longer need it, we delete or anonymise it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;

  • ask us to correct information that is inaccurate;

  • ask us to delete your information;

  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it;

  • receive a copy of your information in a portable format; and

  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent — for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing we carried out before you withdrew it.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@lanternsociety.co.uk. We will respond within the time limits set by law. You also have the right to complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, though we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Children

Our website and products are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please avoid sending us sensitive information through unsecured channels.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. When we do, we will post the revised version here and update the "Last updated" date.
